In times like these where employment is uncertain, having an extra source of income is very important.

Most of us would love to make more money but between family, your 9-5, and other responsibilities, it’s just hard to dedicate the time and effort into starting a side hustle or a second job.

Maybe you want to pay off some bills, build up your emergency fund, or just buy something that you’ve had your eyes on, it’s possible to make a few extra bucks pretty quickly as long as you’re willing to be innovative and think outside of the box.

And no, I’m talking about joining an MLM or doing anything shady. There are legit ways to make money quickly. It may not be as sustainable as you’d like but at least you’ll make a few extra dollars.

Here are some examples of how to make $1000 fast:

Drive for Uber or Lyft

If you have a few extra hours to spare in the evenings or on your day off, consider driving for two of the most popular ride-sharing apps, Uber or Lyft. If you live in a large and busy city, there’s a possibility that you or someone you know have used one of these ride-sharing services. So why not give it a try? Some drivers have reported earning between $100 to $450 per week driving part-time for these companies.

Amazon FBA

More than half of Amazon’s sales are made from third-party sellers. That means people like you can become a seller on Amazon as a side hustle or even turn it into a full-time income.

If you’ve always wanted to start your own retail business but didn’t want the headache or expense of handling shipping, returns, or warehouse space, then Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA) may be a good option for you.

All you need to do is source products that you can make a profit on, ship it to one of Amazon’s warehouses and they’ll handle the packing, shipping, and customer service. Although this requires you to invest some money, the returns can be lucrative if you find products that sell well on Amazon.

Flip stuff on eBay

People have been flipping products on eBay for years and it’s still popular to this day. This may or may not require you to spend money depending on how you go about it.

If you don’t want to spend any money, here’s how you’ll do it: go on Craigslist and head to the “free” section. See what people are trying to get rid of, find out what it’s worth on eBay then decide if you want to sell it. Make sure whatever it is, it’s either still working or of decent quality to sell. Set up your product listing, then wait for the product to be sold or bid on.

If you lucked out and happened to find something that is popular, you will have no trouble selling it quickly.

Have a garage sale

Let’s face it, we all have a bunch of things laying around the house or in that storage locker that we haven’t used and been meaning to get rid of. Take the time to go through your closets to find things that you can make money from. Setting up a garage sale is pretty easy – you can put up a mini-ad on the community notice board or website, or simply put out a sign on the curb for people passing by.

Facebook marketplace, OfferUp  and the Let Go app are also great places to advertise since there are usually a handful of people browsing the site looking to buy gently used items at a reasonable price. However, if you plan on using these local online marketplaces, be sure to meet up with buyers in a safe place or have someone go with you.

Rent a room in your house

If you have a spare room and don’t mind sharing your space, consider renting it. This is a good way to bring in some money monthly if you rather have consistent cash flow.

You can also consider listing it on Airbnb if you rather not have a roommate long term. Depending on your location, you will be able to list at a premium price and you also control when and how long you want to make the room available. Airbnb is a good way to make quick money around holidays or if there’s a large event happening in your area.

Tutoring and Teaching Online

If you have some spare time and like interacting with kids, a tutoring job may be ideal for you. There are programs like VIPKid where you can teach English to Chinese children online. You can set your schedule and have the opportunity to make between $15-22 per hour.

There are also other sites like Chegg where you can tutor college students. The hours are flexible and they offer weekly payouts!

Babysitting

Offer to babysit your friends or family members’ kids for a small fee. Parents would love to take a break to use that free time to relax and would have no problem paying for a babysitter especially if it’s someone they trust.

Sell your services

What are you good at or what have you done successfully? One of the easiest ways to make money without it feeling like its ‘work’ is to do something you like or passionate about.

Did you recently lose 50 pounds? Start a coaching program or create and sell meal plans.

Maybe you’re good at organization and scheduling. Become a virtual assistant part-time. You can advertise your services on Fiverr or Upwork.

Are you a good writer? Moonlight as a freelancer to write articles for popular blogs or write copy for ads. Again, Fiverr is a great place to advertise these types of services.

Meal & Grocery Delivery

If you have a few extra hours after work or on the weekends deliver meals with Postmates, Ubereats, or DoorDash.

Grocery delivery is also a good choice for a weekend side-hustle. Sign up with Instacart or Shipt and get paid to deliver groceries to people’s doors.

Cashback Apps

These are one of those hidden gems that no one thinks about. Most of us shop regularly, whether it’s for groceries, clothing, or new tech gadgets so why not get paid if you’re already spending money anyways?

Apps like Ibotta and Ebates (it’s now Rakuten) offer great cashback and coupon deals for thousands of items at hundreds of stores. You just need to take the time to look for deals and cashback opportunities.

Create a digital product

Online learning has increased significantly over the past few months. People are willing to pay people like you and me for their knowledge if it solves their problems or helps them in some way. There are courses out there for things you probably wouldn’t ever think of and guess what? People pay for them! No idea is too small or insignificant. You can start a course on entrepreneurship or how to start a blog. Udemy is a great place to ell your course.

You can also sell ebooks, digital planners, workbooks, and templates.
