The self-help/personal development industry has grown into a multi-billion dollar industry over the last few years. Market Research Blog estimates that the self-help industry will be worth a whopping $13.2 billion by 2022.

But why is self-help so popular? Most people are always on the pursuit of happiness, wellness, or financial freedom – all linked to self-improvement in some way. The obsession with personal development seems to be a trend and I don’t see that going away anytime soon. If it was, you wouldn’t be reading this blog post 🙂 So here is a list of some of the best personal development books to read right now:

1. Atomic Habits

This is one of my all-time favorite books. Unlike many self-help books, this one is all actionable advice and no fluff. Backed by the science of habits, James Clear introduces a proven framework for improving your life and building good habits that actually works! If you want overnight success, this is not the book for you. Building good habits takes time and patience so if you’re ready to make a change in your life, this book is a must read.

2. The 4-Hour Workweek

If you’re looking to quit the rat race of your 9-5 and want to join the league of online entrepreneurs, this may be the book for you. Tim Ferris challenges readers to think outside of the box and to work smarter not harder to be able to live the life they want.

3. The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck

Okay, I’ve got to admit… It’s the title of the book that really drew me in. If you don’t mind crass language and profanity, this book kinda gives you that slap in your face that you need to stop making excuses and actually do something to live a better life.

4. You Are a Badass

This realistic but entertaining self-help book will help you to recognize and change the self-doubt and self-sabotaging behaviors that are truly holding you back from living a “badass” life.

5. The Richest Man in Babylon

This is one of my favorite personal finance books that gives common-sense advice about prosperity and changing your financial habits. It’s an easy, short read – I think I may have finished it in two and a half hours. Although it is written in old-school English (kinda like the Bible), this book is packed full of money-saving principles and concepts that will give you the inspiration and motivation to build wealth and to achieve financial freedom.

6. The Alchemist

The engaging tale and life lessons in this book will make you not want to put this book down. This is one of those books that you can read over and over again and take away some form of wisdom and inspiration each and every time.

7. Unf*ck Yourself

Truth: I haven’t actually read this book yet but I’ve heard nothing but great reviews about how empowering it is. If you’re looking for a book that will motivate you and have you rethinking that negative self-talk, then this is it. This is on my list of books to read next and I can’t wait to dive in!

8. The Four Agreements

The wisdom in this book will transform your life. Based on old Toltec wisdom, you will identify the source of self-limiting beliefs and learn how to transform your life into one with new experiences of true happiness and personal freedom.

9. Get Out of Your Head

If you want to overcome your toxic and self-sabotaging thoughts, this book does a pretty good job of guiding you down the path of soul searching with practical science-based advice. If you’re ready to get out of your own way and make a change, go grab this book.

10. Don’t Drop The Mic

This is the latest book from best-selling author, phenomenal communicator, successful entrepreneur, and world-renowned thought leader Bishop T.D. Jakes (yikes, that was a mouthful). After many years of preaching Bishop T.D. Jakes has put together a book detailing how he goes about preparing his sermons, and techniques he’s learned along the way to be a successful speaker. So if you’re looking for help in becoming a better speaker/communicator this is the book for you!

11. Everything is Figureoutable

I discovered Marie Forleo last year when she appeared as a guest on Jay Shetty’s podcast. I instantly fell in love with her candid point of view and positive advice on how to tackle the things holding us back in our lives. In this book, she coaches you through taking action to achieve your goals, pursue your dreams, and finding purpose in your life.
